Denbighshire Record Office has a professional research service to assist researchers unable to visit the office personally. For an initial fee, a member of the Record Office will undertake genealogical or other historical research on your behalf, provided that sufficient and precise information is made available on application.
The service will then provide consultation to the wide range of historical material held at the Record Office. The cost of the service is £21:00 for the first hour inclusive of VAT, and £9:00 for each subsequent half hour. This includes a final report of the search and its results, with further suggestions for research where applicable. However, the service does not include the cost of photocopies or microprints, etc. Requests for searches should be entered on the official order form (available as a PDF file at the bottom of this page) with a cheque/postal order for a minimum fee of £21:00 made payable to Denbighshire County Council.
For lengthier searches, the assigned officer will contact the searcher to inform them of further costs, on receipt of which research will commence. However, if the search is to be open-ended, a maximum cost can be paid on application, for instance 'not to exceed £39:00' (i.e. 2 hours research).
Requests should be as precise as possible. For example, a request as to information concerning the birth of John Jones in Denbighshire during the early 19th Century would not be feasible. However, a request for information concerning the birth of John Jones, Ruthin about 1825-35 would be acceptable.
It should be stressed that there can be no guarantee that a search will be fruitful, and refunds will only be made if a search is deemed unfeasible from the outset. Requests for searches are at the discretion of the County Archivist & Heritage Officer, who holds the right to refuse applications.
Members of the Friends of the Clwyd Archives may have the initial standard search of half an hour free. Membership to the Friends is available at a subscription rate of £10.00 per annum. Click on the link on the left for more information.
