FRIENDS OF THE CLWYD ARCHIVES

The Friends organisation was set up in 1994 to promote and support the work of the record offices in north-east Wales. Its main activities include:-

1. The raising of funds to purchase archives or equipment for record offices.
2. To give voluntary support to various record office projects.
3. Publication of the Journal, the Clwyd Historian.
4. An annual day school on an archive-related theme.

Occasional activities include :-

1. Wine and cheese evenings (usually at a country house).
2. Meetings at various places in the area to hear lectures relating to archives.
3. Visits to record repositories and libraries in Wales and the north west of England.

Meetings: Lectures in recent years have included lectures on Oral archives, Quarter Sessions records, Political Archives, and developments in the National Library of Wales.

Day schools: These have been arranged on the theme of Shipping on the River Dee, the Defence of the Realm: Volunteers in North Wales 1870-1945, and Clwyd and its Historians.

The Clwyd Historian: A periodical that is issued free twice yearly to members. It includes articles on a wide variety of topics relating to local history and archives and reports on recent developments in local archive repositories.
