Accommodation Stock Survey

The latest full accommodation stock survey for Denbighshire was undertaken in 2009. 

The aims of the survey are:

• To produce up to date and accurate figures across all sectors of accommodation in Denbighshire which can be used for economic modelling activity locally, regionally and nationally.

• To provide a comprehensive listing of all known operators which can be used for future marketing initiatives, research projects and trade communications.

Summary of the survey

• In 2009 there were found to be a total of 347 accommodation providers in Denbighshire and almost 70% of these were interviewed for the survey.  This is a similar volume of providers to the 2006 survey (342).

• There has been no change in the rural/urban proportions of accommodation providers in Denbighshire between 2006 and 2009. 

• There has been an increase in the volume of providers offering serviced accommodation; up from 175 providers in 2006 to 223 providers identified in 2009. 

• During the same timescale there has been a decrease in the volumes of providers offering caravan, camping and holiday complex accommodation: down from 68 providers in 2006 to 55 in 2009.

• There has been an overall decrease in the volume of bed spaces in Denbighshire: down from 29,600 in 2006 to nearly 16,100 in 2009.  This is driven in part by the decrease in the number of caravan/ camping/ holiday complex accommodation providers (who have on average in 2009 188 bed spaces) and the increase in serviced accommodation providers (who have on average in 2009 21 bed spaces).

• The volume of bed spaces in serviced accommodation has increased in Denbighshire, up from 3,245 in 2006 to 4,769 in 2009.

• Within serviced accommodation one of the accommodation types that has most increased in bed space volumes is country hotels: up from 98 bed spaces in 2006 to 1,328 in 2009.
