The Building Control team is responsible for all building consent which is required under Building Regulations. Most people are familiar with the term 'planning permission' and when they intend to carry out building work; they often presume that this is the only permission they will need. Unlike planning legislation Building Regulations contain a number of complex technical requirements which aim to protect people who use buildings, by setting minimum standards of health, safety, welfare and convenience. Both Planning and Building Regulations are equally important, but they are two entirely separate functions: approval given under one does not necessarily mean that approval will be given under the other.
