Elections are a democratic process where citizens aged 18 and over, elect political candidates to represent them, and their interests, locally, nationally and internationally.
Every day, vital decisions affecting all our lives are taken by local councillors, Members of Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and the European Parliament.
Their decisions cover many issues including education and employment, health, business, housing, the environment, leisure and social services.
Make sure you have your say - use your right to vote. If you don't, you will lose your chance to influence the way things are run in the country, or your part of it. Anyone who is registered in the Register of Electors is able to vote. All votes are equal - your vote is as important as anyone's.
This section explains the different types of elections that are held (and when), and gives information on the results of the most recent.
