Family History

We know tracing your family tree can be a long and time consuming process.  The borders of Counties and Registration districts have changed many times, sometimes making it difficult to trace the record you require.

Please contact the Register Office to check where to send your applications.

Please include as many details as you can, index references you have found do not usually apply to locally held records but can still help in identifying a register entry.  Marriage records can particularly difficult to trace with so many venues, so please include any known addresses at the time and further details.

Register offices do not have the resources to undertake long searches of an indefinite nature.  Usually a search in the indexes covering a period of 5 years will be made.

A very useful website which gives details of Indexes for Welsh Counties is found at www.northwalesbmd.org.uk. This may help in your search.
