Naming Ceremonies

A Naming Ceremony is a very special way of celebrating the birth of your child and welcoming the new arrival into the family and the wider community

It is ideally suited to embracing children of any age into a new family, babies, or perhaps stepchildren or adopted children, by declaring before family and friends, your promise to be as good a parent as you can. You can include more than one child from the same family in the Naming Ceremony.

A fully trained professional Celebrant will carry out the ceremony according to the choices you make.

You can choose from a wide selection of promises and readings, and can include reasons for the child’s name, hopes for his/ her future, promises by Supporting Adults and Grandparents, and parents’ vows to each other. There are many ways to make your child’s ceremony a very personal and unique event. During the ceremony a souvenir Record of the Ceremony is signed by parents, supporting adults and the Celebrant.

Parents do not need to be married, and can come from any cultural background, with any or no spiritual or religious beliefs. You will need to produce the child/children’s birth certificate.

You do not have to live in this area to have a Naming Ceremony here.

A Naming Ceremony can be held immediately after your civil marriage / civil partnership.

The ceremony is non-religious and has no legal status – it is a celebration that you as parents choose to do as a public gesture of love and commitment to your child.

Naming Ceremonies can be held at Denbighshire North (Rhyl) or South (Ruthin) District Register Offices or in any of the venues approved for civil ceremonies in the County.
