Highway Maintenance

Denbighshire - maintaining the county highway network.

The Transport and Infrastructure department is responsible for the maintenance of Denbighshire’s highways which covers nearly 900 miles of roads including main A roads, estate roads and country lanes and all that goes with them such as highway verges and over 300 miles of footways (pavements).

Each year a programme of resurfacing / carriageway sealing work is carried out to reflect the recently identified council priority relating to improving the condition of the road network. The schemes included within the annual programme are selected using criteria based largely on technical and visual condition surveys and, in line with the priority, work is now underway to identify an extended programme of works over the next 3 years.

A lot of the work is undertaken during the summer months as some resurfacing processes need higher temperatures before the materials can ‘set’, but another major factor is the simple reason that the better weather conditions and longer days are conducive to getting more done.

Details of specific schemes can be obtained from Mark Evans and Richard Jones in the Transport & Infrastructure department.
