Misuse Drugs and/or Alcohol

Misuse of drugs and / or alcohol can create many problems for individuals, their families and carers and the local community. Today, there is a range of services for people who misuse drugs and / or alcohol. This information covers how Denbighshire Social Services Department may be able to help.

What Kind of Help is Available?

Assessment
The Social Worker for Drugs and Alcohol can assess your needs with you and build up a picture of the sort of help you need.

Counselling
We work with other organisations to provide counselling and support for individuals, their families and carers who are experiencing the difficulties that drug and / or alcohol misuse brings to their lives.

Treatment
We work closely with Health services to enable individuals to get the treatment they need. This may include treatment at home or in hospital.

Information, Support and Advice
The Social Worker for Drugs and Alcohol can provide information and advice on a range of matters for individuals and their carers such as needle exchange schemes, local support groups and other drug and alcohol support services.

Awareness Raising and Training
We can advise local organisations, for example, youth clubs and schools, on awareness raising programmes. In some circumstances, we may provide training.

Rehabilitation
Following a programme to become drug and / or alcohol free, some individuals may need help to regain the daily living skills that may have been lost. In some circumstances, we may arrange a period of rehabilitation. Social Services has criteria for who will get priority for this service. Generally, these criteria are based on prioritising individuals according to the level of need and risk and motivation to change. The criteria are set with reference to available resources.
