A Denbighshire County Council led project is one of twenty four European projects that have been successful in obtaining a share of a 39.5 million euro funding boost.
The Council is the lead partner of the Cantata2 project, which focuses on tourism development, connecting Small Medium Enterprises and exploring networks to exploit local potential and improve competetiveness. It also looks at identifying innovative ways of developing products, training and marketing and routes to markets.
The total cost of the project is 2.2 million euros and it has been awarded 1.5 million euros of European Regional Development Fund monies, as part of the Atlantic Area Operational Programme 2007-2013.
Previously, the Council led the CANTATA project, a 1.9 million euro tourism development project which was a partnership between Denbighshire, County Clare (Ireland), Galicia (North West Spain), Poher (Brittany) and Montemor - o - Velho (Portugal).
CANTATA assisted local tourism groups and businesses to help themselves and each other through capacity building workshops to build local knowledge, local distinctiveness, pride in the local tourism asset and ways of transmitting this welcome to visitors.
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: 'The funding success of the Cantata2 project is a tremendous achievement. It builds on the success of the original CANTATA project which gave local businesses in Denbighshire the chance to market their services and access new opportunities locally and abroad.
' We look forward to working with our European partners in Clare, Galicia, Poher and Montemor to push forward the Cantata2 project and bring greater prosperity and brand new opportunities for local companies to expand and develop and increase their confidence in working in this extremely competitive market. '
This project is Co-financed with the support of the European union ERDF - Atlantic Area Programme - Investing in our common future.
