Are you worried about a child's safety?

What should I do?

If you have nay concerns about the wellbeing or safety of a child tell us so that we can do something to protect them.  You can contact us on the numbers below and speak to a member of the First Contact Team.  Our lines are open during the following hours:

 01824 712800 - Monday – Thursday – 8.30 am – 5.00 pm
 01824 712800 - Friday – 8.30 am – 4.30 pm

At all other times you can contact us on 01745 331103

Or you can contact North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002, or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

What will happen when I contact you?
You will speak to an experienced member of staff who will ask you to give as many details as possible.  This is important as it helps us to build a true picture, and to make a decision as to whether or not the child is safe.  If you think that a child is being ill-treated, you can ask us to find out what is really happening, whether you are a relative, neighbour, or anyone else who has concerns.  By law, we have to look into every case that we are told about (under section 47 of The Children Act 1989).

What happens next?
When we receive an allegation of abuse, we will check our records and talk to other professionals such as teachers, medical staff and the police to find out more.  A social worker will then visit the child and family concerned, and will usually want to speak to the child directly who is alleged to have been abused.  We will tell the family and child about the concerns that have been raised and we will ask for their views.

If your concerns are proven to be well-founded, we will take action to protect the child.  We will usually try to provide help at home to improve the situation.  Throughout any enquiry, we will tell the child and family about the concerns, and any action needed to protect the child.

Do I have to give my name?
No, you do not have to give your name – but it helps us greatly if you do.  If you prefer, we will not give your name to the child and their family.
