Denbighshire County Council is represented by 47 Councillors, each elected for a four year term.
There are 30 individual electoral divisions where, dependent on the size of the division, there may be up to three Councillors representing that electoral division.
Councillors have a duty to the whole county, but they have a special duty to the people who live in the electoral division they were elected to represent, including the people who did not vote for them.
The current political make-up of the Council is:-
Conservative 18
Independent 10
Independent First 3
Independent (Welsh Liberal Democrat) 1
Labour 7
Plaid Cymru 8
Candidates for election to the Council can either be nominated by political parties or stand as independents.
The next elections are due in May 2012.
