Highway Maintenance
Highways Maintenance

The Highways Services Section of Environmental Services provides a highway maintenance service for Denbighshire, working closely with the Transport and Infrastructure Department, who are the Highway Authority for all Denbighshire’s roads, including the trunk road network funded by the National Assembly.

We have a highly skilled and trained workforce, who are based at Bodelwyddan, Ruthin and Corwen.

The Section carries out the following work within Denbighshire:

  • Maintenance of public footways and carriageways.
  • Winter maintenance, including pre-salting all major roads and traffic routes and clearing of snow.
  • 24 hour, 365 day emergency service, covering all highway emergencies including:
    • Diesel and fuel spillages.
    • Road traffic accidents.
    • Damage to highway surfaces, signs and other equipment.
    • Fallen trees and other storm damage.
  • Highway related flood incidents.
  • Road gully emptying and assistance with clearing blocked surface water drains and culverts.
  • Highway drainage improvement schemes.
  • Tractor–mower cutting of roadside verges.
  • Repair of damage to bridges and structures and construction of footbridges.
  • Clearing of ditches and watercourses.
  • Work on highway improvement schemes.
