Trade Waste

Denbighshire County Council operates a Trade Waste Collection system in your area, which helps ensure your compliance with environmental legislation. We are committed to providing business with a high quality trade waste collection service and have a range of containers and services available to suit most needs. You have the option of using this service or making your own arrangements with an appropriately licensed private waste management contractor.

Trade waste will only be collected by Denbighshire County Council if you have signed a contract, the waste is placed in the appropriate pre paid brown sack (in the North and South of the County) or in a wheelie bin (only in the North of the County). Any cardboard waste will be taken if it has a Cardboard Collection Service label attached.

Trade waste sacks and labels can be purchased from the One Stop Shops, all Denbighshire County Council cash offices at a cost of £1.54 each plus vat for sacks and £15.23 plus vat per sheet of 14 for trade labels. You can purchase as many as you need for the waste you produce each week or purchase in bulk. Sacks can be purchased in multiples of 100 at a cost of £1.45 each plus vat. Initially your receipt of purchase will act as a temporary Waste Transfer Note.

Trade waste is governed by various legislation, the most important being the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Packaging and Waste Regulations 1997. Traders who do not make the necessary provisions and breach their duty of care in respect of their handling of waste may commit an offence under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, for which the maximum penalty upon conviction in a magistrates court is £5,000 or an unlimited fine upon conviction at a crown court.

You are required, by law, to produce copies of your current Duty of Care Waste Transfer notes, when asked by an authorised officer from Denbighshire County Council, to prove that you are disposing of your waste in a responsible manner.

Commercial waste collection services are not covered by business rates and we are obliged by law to make a separate charge for collection. For more information on how to dispose of your trade waste please contact Customer Services via customerservicecentre@denbighshire.gov.uk or 01824 706101 (8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday).

Reduce What You produce!

Producing waste is not an efficient use of resources. Waste minimisation means reducing waste at source and not creating it in the first place. As part of the council's commitment of environmental awareness we would be pleased to advise on how to recycle your trade waste. Contact details are at the bottom of the page.
