Cashless Catering

High Schools

We are justifiably proud to be the first Catering Service in Wales to have installed a computerised system in its High Schools.

Ysgol Brynhyfryd was the first to go on-line in May 2001 and was closely followed by Prestatyn High, Rhyl High, Denbigh High, Ysgol Glan Clwyd and Ysgol Dinas Bran.

Q. What is Cashless Catering?

A. The system allows parents/guardians to give the pupil a cheque to pay for their school meal. The cheque is entered onto a computer by the School Cook and the pupils account is credited with the amount.

We do not use cash registers in the Dining Room - instead the pupil selects their food from the servery and takes it to one of our 'Swipe Stations', where a member of staff keys in what the pupil has selected. The pupil gives in their swipe card and the amount is automatically debited from their account. The pupil is also able to view their account balance at the 'Swipe Station'.

Pupils are also able to put cash into their account by using one of the electronic Re-Evaluation Units, which are sited throughout the school. The pupil swipes their card through the machine, puts their money in and the account is automatically credited.

Primary Schools

We are currently looking into introducing an electronic system for administering payments in our Primary Schools.

Free School Meals

The cashless system provides pupils with total confidentiality - no pupil will know that another pupil is entitled to free school meals and so any associated stigma is removed.

The free school meal allowance is automatically loaded onto the system daily.

The system also enables parents to monitor the eating habits of their children as printed reports can be provided upon request.
