Primary Schools

There are 54 primary schools in Denbighshire and we provide meals to all of them. Taking in the schools in the north - Prestatyn - Rhyl - St Asaph - Denbigh - through to the south - Ruthin - Corwen - Llangollen.

We provide a four week menu, as outlined in our information leaflet below.

All our menus are evaluated by the Dietetic Department at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, to ensure that pupils eating school meals in Denbighshire are receiving a nutritionally balanced meal.

We currently charge £1.65 for a primary school meal, which represents excellent value for money and compares favorably with other local authorities.

At present, we are piloting a 'pre-paid' administration system at one of our primary schools, with a view to installing it in our larger primary schools. The system reduces administration and also aids in the control of debts.

Q. Why school dinners and not sandwiches?

A. Following a morning of hard study (playtime!) it is important that youngsters eat a well balanced lunch to ensure that they are able to concentrate during the afternoon session.

Eating a school meal also helps to teach children the social skills they will need in later life and also the importance and reasons for eating healthily.

We strive to make lunchtime a funtime by having promotional days and theme days during the school year. Many of these are intended to complement the school curriculum.
