Noise Pollution Control
Noise Pollution Control
Noise has been given a variety of definitions depending on the circumstances in which it occurs and the effect that it produces. The most appropriate definition therefore may be ‘sound which is undesired by the recipient’. Complaints about noise made to Local Authorities have increased over the years. This is likely to be in part due to combinations of the following:-
- Increased public awareness of noise issues.
- Increased public expectations of quality of life.
- Increased power of domestic electrical equipment.
- Increased leisure time.
- Increased unemployment and consequential clash of lifestyles.
- Reductions in noise attenuation in dwellings.
- Development of land between existing businesses, residential properties or existing noise sources.
Our main roles within the Pollution Control Team are two fold:-
- To investigate complaints of noise made by members of the public.
- To advise regarding the development of potential sources of noise or noisy activities and to minimise the impact of noise on people especially those affecting their home environment.
