In an attempt to return some of Rhyl's oldest buildings back to use and at the same time refurbish some of the semi derelict properties in Rhyl, the County Council has with the assistance of its partners secured funding for a £1.4m scheme. Three properties in west Rhyl, 14,16,18 Edward Henry Street have been purchased, 14 has been demolished and 16-18 are having some conservation work applied to convert this house of multiple occupancy to micro business units for starter companies along with a community facility. Not only will this create employment opportunities but it will also improve the street scape in Edward Henry Street. Funding partners include Denbighshire County Council, Objective 1 EU Funds, Welsh Assembly grants and Townscape Heritage Initiative Grants supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
This street was drawn in 1929 and painted in 1933 by LS Lowry and striking similarities can be seen between then and now. Below are pictures of the buildings before work commenced and progress pictures of the construction work.
