STEAM is recognised, nationally and internationally, as a research programme which aims to measure the impact of tourism from both staying, and day visitors in terms of :
- Tourist expenditure
- Employment
- Tourist numbers and days
- Traffic generated by tourists
STEAM, an acronym for Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor, was first developed as a concept in Canada in 1983. It is owned by Global Tourism Solutions (UK) Ltd.
Currently of the 22 local authorities within Wales, 21 are signed up to STEAM. All North Wales Authorities are currently working with STEAM.
These figures alone show how invaluable tourism is to our economy. The STEAM reports give a month to month account of the peformance of the tourism industry within an area, from which, trends can be identified and acted upon.
Such research is vital to ensure the future development and success of the industry.
STEAM gives you an opportunity to compare your performance against that of other businesses in North Wales.
