Libraries across North Wales have launched a new reading promotion called Aur Pur/Pure Gold to introduce readers to the good reads available at local libraries.
Librarians from Estyn Allan y Gogledd, the reader development network, have chosen twelve books, six in Welsh and six in English, all set in Wales, but which take the reader to many different places.
Readers can vote for their three favourites by using the promotional leaflet available in libraries, or online at www.denbighshire.gov.uk/libraries. Voting closes on January 31st, 2008.
The authors of the Welsh and English books which win the most votes will be presented with an Aur Pur award in a special ceremony next February.
Reading groups in libraries across North Wales will also be reading and discussing the books, and they would welcome new members to join them.
The aim of the promotion is to show the wide range of stimulating books available free of charge for readers in libraries in Wales. It has been funded from the Welsh Assembly Government’s National Marketing Strategy for Libraries.
Bethan Hughes, advisor with Denbighshire Library Service said “Welsh gold is valuable, rare, and alluring. The rich seam of imagination is much easier to mine, and readers can find it at their local library. Whatever your reading taste, there’ll be something here to entertain, challenge and enrich everyone.”
