11/16/2007 - Lifelong Learning Directorate

Denbighshire County Council has confirmed that Huw Griffiths, Corporate Director for Lifelong Learning, will be away on sick leave for several more weeks. He has been on sick leave since 9 October.

In light of his ongoing absence and in view of the comments from Jane Hutt, the Assembly Government Minister, on 7 November, the Council has had to make interim arrangements. Ms Hutt stated that she is contemplating issuing a direction to the council to make such an appointment if the present Corporate Director is not back at duty by 20 November.

Accordingly the Council has announced that Dr Mohammed Mehmet, presently Director of Children’s Services at Peterborough City Council, will be joining Denbighshire as interim Corporate Director for Lifelong Learning with effect from Monday 26 November.

Councillor Hugh Evans, the leader of council and lead member for education, said: “I look forward to working with Mohammed in improving education in Denbighshire, in line with the council’s priority of school and educational improvement. I have been kept fully informed of the progress in making these interim arrangements, and they are supported by the Cabinet.”
