11/19/2007 - Chairman honoured for musical dedication


Denbighshire County Council has congratulated its Chairman for hitting the right notes and being honoured for services to church music.

Councillor Ken Hawkins was presented with the Archbishop of Wales' Certificate of Merit in Church Music, in recognition of loyal service to church music in the principality of Wales.

Councillor Hawkins has served as a chorister for 43 years,  with 32 of those years as a chorister at St Peter's Church, Ruthin.

He was presented with a medal and certificate by the Archbishop of Wales, The Most Reverend Dr Barry Morgan at a service at Bangor Cathedral on Saturday, November 17.

Ian Miller, Denbighshire's Chief Executive, said: 'I would like to offer my personal congratulations to Councillor Hawkins for his years of dedication and loyal service as a chorister.

'Not many people can hit the right note for so many years and we are delighted that Councillor Hawkins has been honoured in such a prestigious service.”
