Denbighshire residents are now recycling up to 26.1% of their rubbish compared to only 4% just five years ago – exceeding Government recycling targets and it’s thanks to the x2 recycling scheme. The amount of waste sent to landfill is now 17% lower than in 2005.
The scheme, which started 18 months ago, is available to nearly half of all households in the county and has been hailed a great success.
Denbighshire will now be looking to expand the service to areas that are not currently part of the scheme throughout 2008.
Councillor Mike German, Lead Cabinet Member for the Environment welcomed the news but said there is more that can be done.
He said: “Many residents regularly recycle using the x2 scheme and kerbside collections, and they should be applauded for this.
“The challenge, however, is to spread this important message throughout the county so that everyone can play their part and recycle as much material as they can.”
