Post 16 education in Rhyl

Denbighshire County Council, has launched a formal consultation on proposals to re-organise post 16 education in Rhyl.

In February, Denbighshire’s Cabinet agreed for the Council to consult on proposals to close the sixth forms at Rhyl High School and Blessed Edward Jones High School.  The proposal includes delivering post 16 education and training at Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl.

Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl would be responsible for post 16 education in Rhyl from 2009 and the new sixth form centre would be opened during 2010.

Dr Mohammed Mehmet, Acting Corportate Director – Lifelong Learning, said: “There is widespread recognition of the need for radical changes in 6th form education in Rhyl.

“The proposed development will be branded “The Rhyl Sixth” – indicating a commitment to traditional sixth form college academic standards whilst emphasising that this will be a model that will prepare young people for future success in  higher education and the world or work.

Consultation events will be held at Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl on April 28th for parents, school communities and local businesses.  Final details will be announced on the Council’s website and in the media shortly.

Responses should be sent to the School Improvement Service, Lifelong Learning Directorate, Denbighshire County Council, Trem Clwyd, Canol y Dre, Ruthin, LL15 1YN or by e-mail to: admineducation@denbighshire.gov.uk
