European issues will be on the agenda for three Denbighshire schools taking part in events to mark Europe Day (Friday, May 9)- exactly 51 years since the creation of the European Union.
Students from Ysgol Dinas Bran (Llangollen), Ysgol Brynhyfryd (Ruthin) and Blessed Edward Jones High School (Rhyl) will join their counterparts from Darland High School and St Christopher’s School from Wrexham County Borough for two awareness sessions arranged by Europe Direct, a public information centre which aims to raise awareness of European institutions, policies and programmes.
The events, arranged by Europe Direct in collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate General of External Relations, will include creative activities at Darland High School in Rossett, followed by a debate on European issues being hosted at County Hall, Ruthin.
Karima Saqui, a development co-operation ambassador from Brussels will travel to north Wales to take part in events during the day.
The day’s activities will end with a roundtable discussion with the European Commission ambassador and a Christian Aid representative to discuss issues such as humanitarian aid, human rights, the environment, debt, health and education.
