Around half the households in Denbighshire currently receive a recycling service; most of these are on the x2 wheelie bin scheme. This level of service provision has been sufficient to meet the recycling obligations set by the National Assembly for Wales. Unaudited figures for the financial year 2007/08 show Denbighshire residents recycled 28.7% of their household waste.
With the end of the current recycling contract in sight and new targets being set by the National Assembly, we have the opportunity to change the way recycling is provided. That is why we are asking for your views now.
Some issues need no debate. The Council recognises that recycling services will need to be provided to all residents. Although there are costs to providing extra collections, the cost of NOT recycling (e.g. the spiralling cost of waste disposal and penalties for exceeding landfill limits) will soon be even greater.
We want your views about how recycling services are to be provided in future whether you currently receive a recycling collection or not.
