Vale of Clwyd Tour
Denbighshire County Council has been involved in developing a new Vale of Clwyd tour which introduces visitors to the hidden gems of the region.
Each of the ten locations identified on the tour has a new interpretation board which shows the other locations on the tour and makes recommendations of what to see and do while visiting the area. The boards are also located in car parks within the four towns of Rhuddlan, St Asaph, Denbigh and Ruthin.
Many of the locations are classed as “visitor honeypots”, including Bodelwyddan Castle, Tweedmill Factory Outlets, Ruthin Craft Centre, Loggerheads, Coed Llandegla and the Horseshoe Pass. Providing visitor orientation at these locations will encourage people to explore the Vale.
The tour has been developed following a study commissioned by Denbighshire with financial assistance from Welsh Assembly Government and Cadwyn Clwyd. The study looked at the four towns together with the villages and attractions bounded by the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and the Hiraethog to the West.
The study found that there were ‘shortcomings in the way the Vale of Clwyd performs as a destination, particularly its lack of identity and extent of quality interpretation to help both visitors and local people appreciate why the area is so special.’
Councillor David Thomas, Lead Member for Regeneration, said, ‘We hope that the tour and interpretation boards, along with other initiatives being developed as a result of this study, will encourage residents to visit places on their doorstep as well as encouraging visitors to come back to explore more places, thus spending more time and bringing greater economic benefits to the region.’
The report was widely consulted and launched in July 2007. A copy of the report can be found at: http://denbighshiresupportingbusiness.co.uk/General/xhtml/article.asp?PageName=40
