Youngsters at a Vale of Clwyd primary school have lent their support to a campaign to vote for Garry Davies for the prestigious Council Worker of the Year award.
Garry, who works for Denbighshire Countryside Service, has been nominated by Denbighshire’s Chief Executive, Ian Miller for efforts to rescue Eddie Lewis who was spotted in the sea off Barkby Beach, Prestatyn.
Sadly Mr Lewis died, despite the efforts of Garry Davies and James Larminine who brought him to shore and administered first aid.
Now pupils at Ysgol Heulfre, Denbigh are calling on the public to Vote Garry.
Headteacher, Colin Roberts, said: “We are delighted to support this worthy campaign. We are in close contact with Garry on a number of countryside related activities and we believe he deserves some recognition for his outstanding act of bravery. We wish Garry the best of luck for July 3rd and would urge people to vote by text or go online and register their vote”.
Gary is one of six nominations in the bravery category and there are only two Welsh people among the 42 finalists chosen from 350 entries.
The winner will be chosen by public vote. Garry’s details, together with a short film about him can be found by logging on to www.localgovernmentchannel.com and also by tuning into the Local Government Channel every day at 6.30am either on Sky 539, Virgin 233 or Freeview 87 (between June 16 and 23).
People can also vote by texting LGATV 2 Garry to 80039.
Voting will continue up until July 3rd and the winner will be announced at the Local Government Association’s annual conference in Bournemouth on July 3rd, 2008.
