Exploring Denbighshire
Denbighshire County Council's Tourism Department have created seven town trails to cover all the major in towns in Denbighshire. Each trail includes information about interesting buildings, landmarks and local legends. The trails are designed to entice the visitor to explore a little bit deeper into the town's history and even locals may learn a thing or two about the area that they didn't know before!
For example did you know a Roman bust dated 100AD was found in Corwen in 1910 under what is now the HSBC bank?
Did you know Ruthin once had 60 Inns?
Did you know that Prestatyn has yielded many finds related to the Mesolithic area ( around 4000 years ago)?
Did you know that the Lenten Pool roundabout area in Denbigh once was a fish pond stocked with fish for the local community to eat during lent?
Did you know that the song 'Pack up your troubles in your old kitbag' was written in 1914 by two brothers named Powell from St Asaph?
Did you know the mountains around Llangollen were set alight during World War II to confuse the Luftwaffe and lure them away from bombing Liverpool?
Did you know that Rhuddlan once had its own mint where silver coins were made in the reign of William the Conqueror (1066-87)
