06/23/2008 - Talented young readers represent county

Young readers from three Denbighshire schools have won a place in the grand final of the North-East Wales English Books Quiz to be held on Wednesday, June 25th at Denbigh Town Hall.
Teams from Ysgol Pen Barras, Ruthin, Ysgol Llywelyn, Rhyl and Ysgol Melyd, Meliden won the Denbighshire round on June 17th and will be competing against teams from Conwy, Flintshire and Wrexham to win the coveted Quiz Plate and books for their school. All the children, who are aged between 9 and 11, have read six challenging books and are ready to answer questions about them and to give a dramatic presentation on one of the books.
At the grand final, the special guest will be the children’s poet, James Carter, who will give a special poetry performance as well as helping with the adjudicating.
The quiz, now in its 10th year, is organised by the library and education services of Denbighshire, Conwy, Flintshire and Wrexham in partnership with the North-East Wales Schools Library Service. The aim is to encourage children to read exciting and challenging new books and demonstrate their understanding and enjoyment of reading.
