06/23/2008 - Special milestone for county's Language and Play group

It's party time for the Language and Play scheme in Denbighshire as it celebrates its 5th birthday.

Two events are being staged across the county and those that have attended the group are invited to come and join in the celebrations.

The first event takes place at Rhyl Leisure Centre on Saturday, June 28th, 1pm-3pm. The second event will be held in Denbigh on July 12th.  During the sessions, there will be plenty of activities for children and their parents to enjoy, as well as a play session with the toy library. The celebration has been arranged for Saturday afternoon to allow working parents to attend.

The Language and Play team runs sessions across the county and provide an opportunity for parents and children to spend 90 minutes of quality time each week learning through play.

The team is part of Denbighshire's Lifelong Learning Foundation Phase team and gives parents an insight into the way young children will be learning in the new foundation phase.

Sessions are currently held at the following locations:
· Thursdays - Coronation Gardens, Rhyl and the Baby Group at Prestatyn Health Centre
· Friday: Oak Tree Centre, Rhyl Baby Session (am) and the Oak Tree Centre Toddler Session
· Twice a year at Ysgol Emmanuel, Rhyl and Ysgol y Faenol, Bodelwyddan.

The team also works closely with health visitors to provide home visits for families who are not yet ready to attend groups.

Five thousand parents and their children have attended sessions since the scheme was set up five years ago and 50 early years workers have been trained to deliver the programme.
