The final push for votes for Garry Davies is underway, with the July 3 deadline for votes in the Council Worker of the Year competition fast approaching.
Garry has been nominated in the bravery category of the prestigious awards for jumping into the sea with James Larminine to rescue Eddie Lewis who was spotted in the sea off Barkby Beach, Prestatyn. Garry and James both pulled Mr Lewis to shore and administered first aid, but despite their heroic efforts, Mr Lewis was confirmed to have died.
Denbighshire's Chief Executive, Ian Miller, who nominated Garry for the award, said: "Garry has received tremendous support from Mrs Lewis and her family, his colleagues, friends and work contacts. He's been overwhelmed by the level of support and encouragement and has even had people stopping him in a Rhyl supermarket to wish him all the best.
"Garry remains completely modest about his actions and this is a striking feature of this nomination.
"We would like to thank those that have already taken the effort to go online or text their vote for Garry. However, there is some time left for anyone else wishing to support Garry to register their vote. Every single vote counts !"
The winner will be chosen by public vote. Garry’s details can be found by logging on to www.localgovernmentchannel.com
People can also vote by texting LGATV 2 Garry to 80039.
Voting will continue up until July 3 and the winner will be announced at the Local Government Association’s annual conference in Bournemouth on July 3, 2008.
