06/30/2008 - Denbighshire counts down to Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod

A feast of colour, culture and world class music is in store at this year’s International Musical Eisteddfod, which begins on July 8, and there’s a host of events lined up for visitors to the Denbighshire County Council marquee on site throughout the week.

The fun starts with a preview of a puppet theatre production by a group of young people from Corwen on the life of Owain Glyndwr. The theatre piece has been coordinated by Heather Burnley and was written by Iwan Llwyd.

Throughout the day, representatives from Denbighshire’s website for young people, YouthDen and the Scala Cinema development will be on hand and there will be an opportunity to meet 18 year old Clare Wall in character as Sarah Ponsonby, one of the famous Ladies of Llangollen.

On Wednesday, local artist, Ann Bridges, will be on site giving demonstrations in painting and printwork. There will also be a drop-in craft workshop for all ages run by Denbighshire Arts Service.

One of the highlights of the week will be the arrival of the Superlambanana, which will be decorated in a series of workshops on Thursday and Saturday. In addition to this, Sarah Pevely, Community archaeologist, will be on hand and

Denbighshire’s Youth Service will also be holding Cultural Wales workshops.

Story tellers, Mair Tomos Ifans and Cath Aran will weave a yarn for youngsters and the Denbighshire Toy Library will be running a ‘Culture of Play’ workshop.

Come and join us, we look forward to seeing you there.
