07/01/2008 - Library no fines amnesty reminder

Denbighshire’s Library Service is reminding residents of a three week amnesty that allows the public to return overdue library books without being fined.

People who have library books, DVD’s or CD’s that are long overdue have the opportunity to return them without fear of embarrassment during the amnesty which runs from today (Tuesday July 1) until July 22. The ‘wipe the slate clean’ campaign aims to give a ‘fresh start’ to people who cannot use their library tickets because they have outstanding fines.

Any fines and charges due on items which have already been returned - irrespective of the time scale - can also be erased.

This is the first time that Denbighshire has had an amnesty and the hope is that people will search out any long forgotten books or other items and return them. There are many people who no longer use libraries because they are worried about the fines that have accumulated on overdue items. This is an opportunity for borrowers with either overdue items or outstanding fines to start afresh.

Special containers will be placed in Denbighshire libraries, one stop shops and reception areas in main council offices to provide anonymity to those returning long overdue books, CDs and DVDs. People can return items to the following locations:

• Any Denbighshire library or one stop shop
• County Hall. Ruthin,
• Trem Clwyd, Ruthin,
• Caledfryn, Denbigh,
• Ty Nant, Prestatyn,
• Russell House, Rhyl
• Town Hall, Rhyl,
