07/02/2008 - Building on the foundations of Dinas Bran construction

A £2.6 million project to enhance facilities at Ysgol Dinas Bran, Llangollen is underway.

The project, which has been funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, involves the construction of a new building which will include a dining hall and kitchen, as well as a significant refurbishment of existing space within the current 4 storey maths block and conversion of the kitchen area into a new music and practice rooms.

The main building contract has been awarded to Paveways Construction Ltd of Oswestry and some initial enabling works have already been completed.

Leader of Denbighshire, Councillor Hugh Evans, who is also the Cabinet Lead Member for Education, said: 'This project will be of tremendous benefit to all pupils and staff at Ysgol Dinas Bran.  This project will see the end of temporary accommodation and see new, purpose built facilities fit for a modern day education.

“This work will also free up much needed space in the present stage and hall areas and I’m sure the whole school is looking forward to seeing the new developments taking shape.”

The work is expected to be completed by September 2009.
