07/07/2008 - Supported Housing project to help young people

Denbighshire County Council working in Partnership with the Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd Housing Association are considering proposals for a small supported housing project for young people aged between 16 and 24 in Denbigh.

A meeting has been arranged for 6:30pm on Monday 21 July at Eirianfa Community Centre to give people the opportunity to discuss the issue.

Llys Gwyn in Vale Street, Denbigh, has been identified as a potential site for such a project. ‘Supported housing’ is a type of accommodation where young people live in normal houses and flats under usual tenancy agreements but with the extra backing of a support worker to help the tenant live independently.

Following a public consultation exercise, a risk assessment and feasibility study has been undertaken and a report has been produced. Denbighshire County Council will be discussing the proposal and the report further with residents and the Town Council.

A copy of the report and details of the meeting can be obtained from Denbighshire County Council by phoning Jenny Elliot, Supporting People Team on 01824 712300 or emailing jenny.elliot@denbighshire.gov.uk . The report is also available on the Denbighshire County Council website.
