The Leader of Denbighshire, Councillor Hugh Evans has congratulated staff, governors and pupils of Blessed Edward Jones High School, Rhyl following confirmation the school is no longer deemed to be in special measures.
A recent inspection by Estyn found the school to have made "good progress" and had significantly improved teaching and learning. The report highlighted the headteacher’s clear vision and high expectations for the school, as well as the culture of improvement shared by all staff.
Conscientious lesson planning, effective team working and respect between teachers and learners were some of the other key strengths highlighted in the inspection feedback.
Councillor Hugh Evans said: "This is absolutely tremendous news and is a tribute to the dedication of the whole team at Blessed Edward Jones who have worked tirelessly to improve teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils.
"Anyone who visits the school cannot fail to be impressed by the commitment of the teachers towards improving education. The respect shown by pupils is evident and the general ethos of the school is around improvement, respect and raising standards.
"I would also like to congratulate Catherine Britton on her permanent appointment as headteacher of the school. Her commitment has been first class and the Council looks forward to continue working with Catherine and the team".
