07/09/2008 - Council tax success

Denbighshire has one of the best council tax collection rates in Wales and the best record in North Wales.

Figures released by the Assembly show Denbighshire had the second highest amount of in-year council tax collections in Wales during 2007/08 (98.1%).

Statistics also show Denbighshire had the lowest total of arrears in Wales outstanding on March 31, standing at £916,000 and the second lowest amounts outstanding per chargeable dwelling by 31 March, with only Pembrokeshire having lower amounts.

Councillor Julian Thompson-Hill, Cabinet Lead Member for Finance, said: "I am delighted that the efforts of our staff in collecting council tax have paid dividends and these figures are testament of all the hard work going on. In recent years, Denbighshire has been one of the best councils in Wales for collecting council tax and that truly positive record of achievement continues.

"We must also take the opportunity of thanking the majority of Denbighshire residents for paying their council tax promptly. Monies collected are ploughed back in to improving services for local residents."
