Councillors from across North Wales gathered for a special conference aimed at promoting their role and the work of local authorities - the first time for such an event to take place in the region.
The 'Leading Local Government in North Wales 2008' one day conference was hosted at Venue Cymru, Llandudno on Friday, July 11 and saw councillors from all six counties in North Wales listening to presentations on a wide range of issues, including:
· The role of a councillor
· National expectations of councillors
· Key policy issues in local government
· Collaborative agenda
· Collaboration in practice
· Member support and development
· Making a difference
Speakers from local councils, Welsh Assembly Government and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) took part in the event.
Leader of Denbighshire, Councillor Hugh Evans, said: 'All six local authorities and the WLGA were involved in arranging this event, which gave an opportunity for councillors, old and new, to meet and learn from each other. Having local and national speakers allowed councillors to learn about their roles as representatives of their communities and also about the wider local government agenda in Wales.
'It was also an opportunity for all participants to share their experiences and showcase their local areas to a wider audience.'
Two further events are scheduled later in the year.
