Denbighshire County Council has expressed concern about the refusal of Unison to agree exemptions from strike action for various services for vulnerable people. Among the services which have been jeopardised by Unison's decision are:
dealing with emergency homelessness cases
equipment stores, which provide equipment for disabled people etc.
the hospital social work team, which works with NHS colleagues to ensure speedy discharge following hospital treatment
the pupil referral unit and the special schools, Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn and Ysgol Tir Morfa, which cater for some of the most vulnerable and needy young people in Denbighshire
housing support assistants and rehabilitation care officers who work to support vulnerable adults living in the community.
The Chief Executive, Ian Miller, said "It is disappointing that Unison has not agreed exemptions for these services although it has done so for other services that we provide for vulnerable people or in response to emergencies. We hope that service users and their families will not be inconvenienced as a result.
"Managers and staff who do not heed the strike call will seek to minimise the impact.
"While we apologise in advance for any impact, the responsibility for it rests with Unison which has refused to agree the exemptions that the Council sought".
