08/07/2008 - Time to Meet the highest Superlambanana

Jubilee Tower at the summit of Moel Famau is the place to be on August 16 with a chance to meet the highest Superlambanana of them all.
The Big Walk is an event being organised by Denbighshire County Council and Flintshire County Council, to celebrate the connections between the Clwydian Range AONB and Merseyside, as Liverpool celebrates its status as European Capital of Culture.
Over the summer, a trail of 120 Superlambananas were placed around Liverpool but three of them managed to ‘escape’ with one of them finding its way to the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and Wepre Park where through a series of workshops, children and adults helped decorate the Superlambanana with Moel Famau in mind.
Now everyone is invited to join the newly dressed Superlambanana when he’s put out to ‘graze’ at the top of Moel Famau for the Big Walk,a day of family fun with performances of music and poetry.
The Jubilee Tower will also be decorated with banners and flags, specially made by children who attended workshops in schools and libraries throughout the counties.
Denbighshire County Council's Cabinet Lead Member for Tourism, Councillor David Thomas, said: “This event will be a day of celebrating our links with Liverpool European Capital of Culture, the chance to meet our very own Superlambanana as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery across the Vale of Clwyd and the Clwydian Range AONB."
Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Quentin Dodd, said: “This will be a fun day out for all the family, with the chance to experience the beauty of Moel Famau while also seeing the work of Flintshire and Denbighshire school children who had an enjoyable time decorating the Superlambanana.”
Bring a picnic and take part in a day of fun and family entertainment.
The first 500 visitors to reach the summit on the day will receive a banana courtesy of the Co-op. Park and Ride is available from County Hall, Mold and run at regular intervals from 9.30am and returning throughout the afternoon.
