Are you looking after a child, but you're not a relative or legal guardian?

If you are, you're not alone. Private fostering - let Children's Services know.

It is estimated more than 12,000 children in Wales and England are privately fostered.

A privately fostered child is defined as a child under 16 (or under 18 with disabilities) living with a person who is not a relative or legal guardian for more than 28 days.Children’s Services has a legal requirement to ensure these children’s welfare is being safeguarded and the suitability of the adults looking after them. 

If you are looking after someone else’s child for more than 28 days you are legally required to let Children’s Services know.Anyone in Denbighshire who is privately fostering a child and has not informed us, is unaware that this was required or is planning to privately foster in the future should contact Children’s Services on 01824 712900.
