1. When will my food waste bin be collected?
Your food waste bin will be collected every week - please see your collection day calendar for details.
2. Can I put food waste in normal carrier bags / black bags / biodegradable liners purchased from a shop?
No. Food waste must be placed in the biodegradable liners provided with your kitchen caddy.
3. Will additional bags of food waste be taken?
Additional bags of food waste will not be taken if they are placed alongside your orange food waste bin. If you have too much food waste for your orange bin please contact us for an additional container.
4. What about smells, bugs, germs, flies?
The kitchen caddy and the collection bin both have locking handles which keeps the lid firmly in place. These features prevent any smells escaping as well as avoiding attracting unwanted attention from animals. Please note that the lid of the collection bin must be locked shut (the handle in the upright position) for collection.
5. I don't think I have room for the new bins?
The kitchen caddy is only 5 litres with a lockable lid and carry handle. It is designed to be kept on the kitchen work surface or under the sink and doesn't take up much room at all. The orange collection bin is 25 litres and is designed to be kept outside and placed at the kerbside for collection on your specified day (see your collection day calendar for details.)
6. I don't think my collection bin will be big enough?
As the food waste is collected weekly the collection bin should have adequate capacity. Please contact us on 01824 706101 if you requier an additional bin.
7. What if I compost my kitchen waste already?
If you compost at home, please carry on! Increasing numbers of residents are composting at home, this is one of the most positive ways of dealing with raw kitchen and garden wase. It is also very good for your soil. The biggest benefit of this service is that it will deal with your cooked and raw meats, leftovers etc.
8. I am disabled and cannot take my bin to the property boundary?
If you are already registered for assisted collection this will also apply to your food waste collections.
