Community Archaeology
Did you know you have your own Community Archaeologist in North Wales?
The Community Archaeologist works with community groups across Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham, providing information, advice and sharing knowledge about local archaeology. This can be through evening talks, special events, school visits, museum tours and community excavations...all for free!
The Community Archaeologist is also supported by the Portable Antiquities Scheme. This is a national scheme to encourage the reporting of archaeological objects found by members of the public. The scheme provides a network of Finds Liaison Officers across England and Wales, who provide advice and record your finds in a national database (www.finds.org.uk).
Cadw have been involved in restoring monuments and the Community Archaeologist works with volunteer community groups on such projects
So if your school, youth club, residents’ association or other group has an interest in archaeology and would like to get closer to the history of your local area, please contact the Community Archaeologist through the email address on the left or ring 01745 882522 or 0791 755 3189. The Community Archaeologist post is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw.
