06/01/2009 - Beating the Recession!


Local organisations have joined together to try and beat the recession by promoting quality jobs throughout Conwy and Denbighshire.
A free Jobs Event will take place at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on Saturday 6 June from 10am -3pm in the Orme Suite (formerly the Ocean Lounge).
Public sector and key local organisations will be raising awareness of local employment opportunities and apprenticeships and providing practical support for local people of all ages who are looking for work.
Organisations that will be represented include Conwy County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council, Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, North Wales Police, Snowdonia National Park and Pennaf Housing Group together with the NHS, voluntary associations, JobCentre Plus, Careers Wales and other local employers.
Members of the public can talk to employer representatives or attend workshops that will be running throughout the day. These will provide help and advice on how to look for jobs on-line, information on how to improve job applications and CVs, preparing for interviews, advice on the effect of employment on benefits plus information on apprenticeships.
Welsh Assembly Government staff will be also be at the Jobs Event to discuss plans for their new building in Llandudno Junction, due for completion next year, and the range of quality job opportunities which will be created there.
Admission is free - so if you want to know about applying for jobs and what is available in the local area, then this is the place to be!
Free buses will be available to the event as follows:
Bus1: M&H - leaving Prestatyn High at 8.45
           leaving Rhyl High at 9am 
           leaving Rhyl Community Centre, Wellington Road at 9.10am

Bus 2: Yellow Bus – leaving Dinas Bran at 8.15am
                       leaving Brynhyfryd at 8.45am
                       leaving Denbigh High at 9.05am
   leaving Ysgol Glan Clwyd 9.20am

Return buses will be at 3pm at the end of the event.
Any local employers with vacancies can either contact Jane Cater, Events Manager Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, at j.cater@llandrillo.ac.uk if they want a stand at the event or to forward their vacancy details for the jobs board.
A web site has also been developed for the Conwy Local Service Board www.conwylsb.org.uk which gives further information on employment and training opportunities.
This event is being funded by the Welsh Assembly Government Local Service Board Development fund and organised by Conwy and Denbighshire Local Service Boards.
