In Denbighshire we have 17 designated school crossing patrol sites located near schools or at another difficult crossing point for many children on their school journey. This service is provided to help children around the County cross the road safely when walking to and from school.
A number of standby patrols are employed so that every effort is made to ensure that each site is manned every school day but sometimes this will not be possible, and it is still a parent's responsibility to make sure that their children travel and arrive safely at school.
Pedestrians using the school crossing patrol should always remain on the pavement until the patrol is in position at the centre of the road and traffic is stopped , and should not simply follow the patrol into the road.
Drivers should always stop a safe distance away from the crossing patrol.
A school crossing patrol can by law stop traffic for any pedestrian to cross the road. Any motorist failing to stop for a patrol when required to do so will be reported to the North Wales Police.
The continuing co-operation of Denbighshire residents and road users is very welcome.
