There are courses, which are designed to teach you the skills, and lead to qualifications that you will need to get the job or the future you deserve. It’s all about enjoyment, flexibility and widening horizons at venues across the county.
There are also courses that will help you improve your reading and writing, we also provide course that will help you with your maths.
We know it’s sometimes hard to fit learning into an already busy life, so we offer a wide range of part-time flexible day and evening courses, available right across Denbighshire. We offer a welcoming and supportive learning environment and we aim to make your experience with us both stimulating and enjoyable
Choosing a Course
There are short workshops, free tasters, courses with qualifications and courses for leisure.
On some courses all learners will be working towards the same goals, on others they will set their own individual goals with the guidance of their tutor.
The same course may be delivered in a variety of ways, e.g. 2 hours a week for 30 weeks. They may be held during the daytime or evenings.
Some run through school holidays, others will have a break allowing those with young children to attend without worries about childcare.
Courses may be held at community centres, school based learning centres, village halls, or libraries. We will also be offering a range of new on-line courses in English and Welsh in the coming months.
Many adult learning courses have access to excellent state of the art computer resources that will help you to learn a range of new skills.
Eligibility & Guidelines
Courses are usually open to all people aged over 16 with no upper age limit.
Under 16s
We only accept under 16s on our courses in very exceptional circumstances. Please ring your local further education college to arrange for a place.
Why are some courses offered as a whole year and others as 3 terms?
The length of our accredited courses is decided by the content and level. For example a course that follows an external syllabus may have a minimum number of teaching hours specified by the awarding body. Apart from awards that are offered in a modular format, or intensive courses run over a shorter period, most qualifications are longer courses, usually 30 weeks or more. By asking learners to commit to the whole course they can be sure that once their course has started, it will run through to the end.
Leisure courses are usually offered termly, which enables new learners to join at the start of each term provided the level is suitable. They do not usually carry a qualification, and their viability will be assessed on a term-by-term basis. Learners will be able to achieve against their own goals and internal certificates of achievement may be awarded if appropriate.
Can I repeat the same course that I did last year/term?
Learners can repeat any non-accredited course that they have already previously attended, e.g. termly yoga, computer and art, etc.
Accredited courses can be repeated if a pass was not achieved previously. If a pass was achieved the fees would be calculated differently and you would need to seek advice through your local college.
Can I enrol on a course already started?
This will depend on the type and length of the course and will need to be agreed by the tutor.
I can’t attend the first session – can I still enrol?
The first session will include time for you and your tutor to get to know each other (and the other learners) as well as a general overview of the course. Your tutor will also cover health and safety issues and learner expectations.
You can enrol on any course by calling in or telephoning the college providing the course you are interested in or by attending the first session at the appropriate venue.
