The Wales Portrait Award was a Biennial competition designed to increase the awareness of portraiture as a fine art discipline.  Little had been done to encourage portraiture in Wales since the late 19th century and this award was designed to redeem this gap in provision and to restore this important art form to its rightful place in a modern Wales.  Unfortunately plans for future competitions have had top be postponed owing to a lack of funding.
