Denbighshire & District National Eisteddfod

It’s Denbighshire’s turn to host the National Eisteddfod in 2013, so join us on the outskirts of Denbigh from 2-10 August this year for a most memorable week!

The Eisteddfod is a travelling festival, so no two years are the same. There’s a different vibe every time – but always with that same Eisteddfod magic.

Think Edinburgh Fringe crossed with Glastonbury – and then think Wales – and you’ll be halfway to picturing the National Eisteddfod, the must-do event in the Welsh festival calendar. A heady mix of music, literature, culture, dance, theatre and much more, look beyond the traditions and you’ll find a young and vibrant festival with cutting edge fringe activities, and one of the best atmospheres in the world!

Steeped in the culture of centuries, the National Eisteddfod has its traditions, which are an important part of our history and our identity, but mix these traditions with open air performance stages, an onsite theatre, hundreds of activities for children and families, over 300 stalls and tradestands, and much more, with the traditional and alternative coming together perfectly to create an atmosphere that can only be described as ‘Eisteddfod’!

There’s around 150,000 visitors every year – and thousands come for the whole week – from all over Wales and beyond. It’s the perfect place to meet new friends and to catch up with the friends you made over a pint on the Maes last year. There’s a warm welcome for everyone at the Eisteddfod whether you speak Welsh or not.

The Eisteddfod is a celebration of the Welsh language, but music, culture and Welsh ‘hwyl’ can be enjoyed universally and in any language.

In medieval Britain, men and women throughout society possessed seals; many thousands of these survive in archives, museums and private collections. Most seals are small, and quite often they are damaged, but all reveal information about their owners, whether individuals or institutions, and offer glimpses into lives which might otherwise be lost. The Exploring Medieval Seals project, at Aberystwyth University, is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The project’s aim is not only to share advanced research and expertise with a variety of audiences, including teachers and schoolchildren, archivists and curators, heritage professionals and local historians, and in fact anyone with a keen interest in the Middle Ages, but to explore with interested parties the ways in which our research can help in developing new agendas in education, research and the presentation of the past to as wide a public as possible.
