Coronafeirws - Parent carers of children with additional needs
General information and advice
The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has been very challenging. The patterns of our daily lives have been disrupted. We have changed many of our habits and behaviours. At the same time we are facing new anxieties and pressures. We know that this will be particularly difficult for many children with additional needs, and also for their families.
With so much change and confusion around, it's helpful to try to keep as much calm and predictability in our lives as we can. Try to keep up many of your usual routines. Try to plan your time together, and to talk often about what you're doing now, and what's next. This will help you all to feel some sense of order and structure.
Remember to look after yourself. Try techniques such as controlled breathing or mindfulness to help deal with stress and anxiety, even if you haven't used them before. And remember that stress and anxiety are a normal reaction to the current situation.
While we're not able to meet you face to face, there are still ways we can support you.
Please speak to your school for help and ideas about education at home.
If you need information or advice - or even just a chat - our Disability Wellbeing Navigators and Transition & Independence Coordinator are available by telephone or email. We can give practical advice about how to make the best use of the resources you already have at home.
